“Helsinki by Night” was a sightseeing performance, an alternative city tour where the audience was transported by bus around Helsinki. The main character was the city itself, with its streets, people, and buildings. Instead of the usual tourist attractions, the audience was presented with a different city; what lies beneath the surface of the city’s everyday reality? The stage was outside the bus, and the performance took place inside the bus. Reality and performative material blended in the audience’s perception. The audience could no longer distinguish what was constructed for the performance and what events belonged to everyday reality. The viewer constructed their own stories from what they saw. “Helsinki by Night” was RRC’s (Reality Research Center) main production of 2006.
