Midsummer Night’s Dream

AND OTHER DREAMS AND VISIONS

J

William Shakespeare’s classic play was brought to the stage by young performers at Ryhmäteatteri’s Helsinginkatu venue in 2014.

The play is a mix of incredible chaos, misunderstandings, and mishaps, with love lurking beneath it all. The magical fairies with their potions further complicate things, causing people to behave in unexpected ways. The young actors also contribute their own personal material to the performance. The “theater troupe” written into the play represents various groups the young performers have been part of and will be part of in the future. There is also a personal touch found in dreams and, of course, in love.

“If true love is always obstructed, it is fate and law that the troubled must endure. Now patience is required and waiting, for love has been tested before and will be tested again. It belongs to the fabric of love like dreams, and tears and hopes, messengers of love’s suffering.”
