“Puttana” (Italian for bitch, whore, or slut)

How do we assess ourselves and others? Does your sex life define you as well? How easy is it to love your own body?

“Puttana” is a monologue by Oskar Hartman, reflecting on his experiences as a gay man, particularly as a “bottom.” The experiences of being a “bottom” can be compared to women’s experiences regarding judgments about excessive sex, pleasure, and multiple partners. You are condemned as dirty because you enjoy sex too much. Oskar shares his experiences in Berlin’s sex clubs, waiting for HIV test results, and his modeling career aspirations in Milan. Wherever he is in the world, he always checks out all the hot guys on dating apps first. The performance is in English.

The monologue was presented four times at Camden Fringe in London (August 2019).

Script and Performance: Oskar Hartman
