WORK 4.0 – FUTURE OF WORK LAUNCH EVENT
The program includes: sparkling wine reception; exhibition on jobs facing extinction; unveiling the future of work; manifesto
On Friday, September 9, 2016, the Reality Research Center’s Work Island hosted a presentation event in the Astoria Hall, focusing on the Future of Work. The event was hosted by the embodiment of new work, Panda.
Panda has served as a work-life consultant at the Reality Research Center for nearly ten years. Under its guidance, we have explored work as a concept, life’s purpose, a tool for control, a social phenomenon, and a reflection of our times. We have also studied the fundamental skills of today’s workers: how to work 24/7, how to transition from content production to creating a desirable identity, and how to be interested in everything while caring about nothing. Our days have been filled with work that most of the world doesn’t even call work, and in September, we presented the conclusions of our ten-year research. This was a unique and singular programmatic evening.
“Reality Research Center’s WORK 4.0 leaves a melancholy but relieved feeling – we are all in the same boat. None of us can survive in today’s work life, it is insane for all of us, and no one knows what lies ahead. Work has irrevocably changed, but no one yet knows where we are headed. Panda’s words echo in my mind: We believed in work like a god. Now we no longer know why we do it.” Suvi Auvinen, Cultural Notebooks 6/2016
“The Reality Research Center’s presentation is gentle, wise, and perceptive. Its conclusion points towards a new world order where work, in its current form, becomes unnecessary. The manifesto declared at the end of the presentation is a revolutionary expression of resistance. – – The conclusion of the presentation is impactful. The Astoria Hall falls silent as if after a celebration. The only remnants of the new work’s desolate revenues are the empty sparkling wine glasses.” Riikka Niemelä, So & Thus 4/2016″
