Year Model 2011 – Vuosimallia Kaksituhattayksitoista

VM. 2011 was a performance by the Q-Theater Youth Theater, involving twenty theater makers aged 14-20. The dramaturgy of the play followed the cycle of the year month by month, exploring how seasonal changes affect people and when speech is common versus private. Together, we gathered media-transmitted material about the events of 2011 as a backdrop for the performance and considered what Finns discuss and what they prefer to keep silent about. I adapted excerpts from Karel Čapek’s novel “The Gardener’s Year” as a literary framework, where the life of plants is compared to human life, helping to understand life’s diversity and limitations. On stage, Čapek’s gardener was likened to a cultivator, employer, and teacher. Premiere on November 28, 2011, at Q-Theater.
